Yesterday was a really shitty day, and I did it to myself. Last night was an exciting night... others did that to me.
I don't like exciting, and I don't like shitty, either. I didn't like the preceeding 24 hours much.
Starting off with yesterday morning... it was great. Went to bed at 09:00, got up at 11:00 to pee.
Could not get back to sleep. Dammit, bound and determined to sleep, I was. Didn't work. Go up for a smoke, check mail. Back to bed. No sleep. Up. Down. Pissed off. Beautiful day here in Kansas. I wanted to, no needed to, sleep. Couldn't. Finally gave it up at 17:00, took a shower.
Karen and Kim had fixed a ham and most of the fixin's so we all had supper, then I went on in to work.
And started running, from 19:00 until everyone else left at 23:00, then I ran some more by myself. At least when I'm by myself I seldome run into anyone trying to get my work done...
The ED was full, Urgent Care was full and the waiting room was full... at 24:00. I did get a chance to go eat, anyway. Which brings up something else... they've decided to not let third shift have metal utensils to eat with anymore. Yep, just "good quality" plastic. Oh, no, not accusing anyone of anything, but they do buy $1,000 worth of silverware every month....
And the third shift is getting pentalized. No accusations... but you guys can't be trusted with the cheap flatware...
So a little bit later a lady comes in with abdominal pain and no pedal pulses, and I'm asked to do a CT of her abdominal aorta. I start up kinda high, just on general principles, and I see on the first cut that she's got a dissecting aneurysm, instead of the leaking abdominal lower aortic anurysm as the Dr suspected.
So I re-inject to include the aortic arch and sure enough, it's starting at the root of the aorta.
Everyone was really antsy to get this lady done and in the hands of the surgeons ASAP, and after seeing the images she was out of the department forthwith. This all happened about 02:00, and she was still in surgery when I left at 07:15.
The two hours of sleep that I got yesterday didn't really sustain me much past this point... but they kept me running the rest of the night anyway. So I'm just about to collapse and sleep about ten hours.
More tomorrow...
And I hate using plastic forks. Good quality, my ass. Well, hell, they claim that their food is good quality, too, so what can you expect...
