Not a bad night, at least until about 05:55...

I was pretty busy earlier, but things dropped off sharply about 01:00, I was able to eat and recoup my energy. Before that, I had about five CTs in a row, all of them negative.

I seem to be griping a lot about work lately, but it seems that many of my fellow employees are voting with their feet... two more nurses told me last night that they had quit, and I know several others who are just about ready to. Seems that when they were offering the bonus money, there were enough people to do the work, but that ended Sunday night... so the patient load remained the same, but the help was halved.

And the nurses, as we all do, like to feel that they're doing a good job... and they don't when they have to triage their time... let one sick patient wait while they tend to an even sicker one. It isn't fair to anyone involved.

It is very discouraging to me to see all of the good people quitting, moving on to greener pastures. Essentially, what that means is that the people who are left are mostly just working for their paychecks... which is OK in many jobs, but not in health care. There needs to be a certain amount of selfless dedication... even though that selfless dedication is often taken advantage of by those higher up.

It's really too damned bad.

Anyway, about 05:55 I start trying to do a cervical spine study on an 86-year-old lady who fell out of her bed in the nursing home. This lady has no calcium in her bones, and it is damned near impossible to get a good study on her... she is totally unable to cooperate, and in pain, of course. I am rarely defeated in these cases, but I was tearing my hair out (just a figure of speech...) trying to get good films. I finally got an adequate exam on her neck, then took her over to CT and did a scan of her head.

I normally call Karen about 06:00 every morning, just mostly to hear her voice, and I missed that this morning... so I called her when I got home, but I had to leave a message, she's probably at a meeting of some sort.

So, anyway, it's bedtime for this bozo...

Thanx for being here!
