I'm still getting, "We're sorry... all circuits are busy now..." from Mom's long distance carrier. O'well, Karen is supposed to call in 15 minutes anyway... she can call in OK, we just can't call out.
Yesterday was errand day... we went to the store and the bank, and since Mom's cousin Reta is sick with the flu (she didn't get her shot, and she's a part-time teacher) we went to the bank and the store for her too.
Reta is very good with taking Mom to the store and on other errands when necessary, so it's only right that she get a little payback.
The rest of the day was spent teaching Mom internet mail and letter-writing in MS Word. I wish that I was a better teacher with more patience... or maybe if I had more time!
I'll be heading back to Topeka shortly, I think. It's a beautiful day here in Enid, supposed to be a beautiful weekend all over the plains.
Clinton was, as everyone knows by now, let off scott-free (that's a strange phrase, where did that come from) and Mom is pretty incensed with that. There are a lot of republicans in the same boat, still proclaiming (according to the paper here in Enid) that there was "clearly obstruction of justice and perjury."
Of course, there was no such thing. If it would have been clear, he would've been convicted and thrown out of office. No, it was all circumstantial, which allowed us to interpret it however we wanted to. Strangely, most of the republicans interpreted it to mean that he was guilty, and most other people though it meant he was not. But there were five republican senators who voted with the demos, and none went the other way.
So it was pretty much dependent on where you stood beforehand... interestingly, there are still people who believe that the State Troopers in Arkansas weren't paid to say what they said about Clinton, even though they admitted that they were paid to tell lies. Those lies were comforting to some people, and they are not about to give them up.
In fact, that incident pretty well summarizes this whole thing: there are people out to get Clinton, and the truth will not deter them, but it will be swept awaay on the waves of their prejudice.
Enough politics, I've had my say now.
I'm looking forward to getting home, but not looking forward to the drive. Someone needs to get busy and invent teleportation, I'm tired of waiting. I want to be places without having to spend the time getting there.
Although it is kinda peaceful driving by myself... lots of time to think. Coming down, I didn't really have that much thinking time, I was occupied with keeping the truck on the road in spite of the wind.
Mom's mail just came, and Karen had sent me a valentine... what a sweetheart. On the other hand, damn, I haven't got her one yet. I'll make up a poem on my way back to Topeka...
