I managed to sleep until almost 06:00 this morning, having gone to bed at 23:00 yesterday. I'm feeling almost human.
I screwed up the reminder list the other day and I didn't realize it until I got a note this morning from Susan... she missed the reminders! Thanx, Susan! So I got it fixed... just another instance of Doug not knowing what he's doing but doing it anyway....
So, when I got up the snow had stopped, there was a full moon descending majestically in the west, and it is cold! It seems that most of the snow went east... I don't think that I'm sorry about that at all. We've only got about three inches, but KC has six and St. Louis has more than a foot of the white stuff.
But it's windy here, too, and the wind chill is about -20F. That's OK, I'm not going anywhere, I don't think.
Karen and I had planned to go to KC yesterday and stay in a hotel, but we cancelled due to the weather. We did have a nice day together, though, and we'll have two more before she has to go back to work...
There's a lotta stuff around here that we need to get done... laundry, for one thing... but we can't use the washer until I get the drain unplugged downstairs. Unless I can figger out how to get the washer hooked up upstairs so I don't have to use the floor drain...
What I was planning on doing was just running a drain pipe to the floor drain from upstairs... but maybe I can hook the pipe into another line somewhere...
I went to the hardware store to get some drain cleaner... and looked at the plumbing stuff. They had a floor drain on the shelf... and it had a clean-out plug on it! I was excited! (well, sometimes it don't take too much...) I'd never seen one on the one here... but I never looked, either. I got the shop-vac out and cleaned all of the shit up, and... lo and behold! There it was! There was a plastic plug in the rusted iron, and I got that out, but it'll never go back in again...
In about a minute, I had it cleaned out. So now the day can progress...
Karen is going to be helping me get the old kitchen straightened out so that we can get the washer and dryer upstairs. I've got everything I need to get it done except for the wall cap, which I could have bought at the hardware store while I was there... I'll just have to go back again, as usual...
18:01...
Getting the washer up the stairs was a real bitch. Karen helped me, but we had to stop in the middle of the stairs and get our breath... well, me, mostly.
We did the first load in the washer... nothing exploded, nothing leaked... weird. I got the standpipe in for the drain, it just empties out into the now-open floor drain in the basement.
But the dryer is still downstairs. It'll probably take me an hour or so to get the gas piped to the right place, and it's too damned cold to do that tonight, plus I'm pretty well worn out, and I tend to fuck up more when I'm worn out...
More chili for supper... it turned out excellent, naturally. And then Karen puts vinegar in it.
She really likes vinegar. Maybe I should put some on my... no, that probably wouldn't work...
More tomorrow...
And it was a pretty productive day. Got the washer moved upstairs, which meant that I needed to move a whole buncha stuff. So Karen and I pretty well cleaned out the old kitchen... well, enough, anyway.
