Journal Entry
And again, What a wonderful day!
I did sleep better last night and I got up relatively early. I did some piddling around and then woke Tyler up and put him to work doing insulation. In the meantime, I had some errands to do... go to the bank and the drug store and to smokes-4-less and to the hospital to put my paid days off into the system so's I'd get paid...
I went to the bank first, then to the hospital. I stopped into the cafeteria first to get some coffee... and ran into my boss Doug. He asked me if I wanted to do the interview now and I immediately agreed so we went down to his office.
And, of course, I was completely unprepared. Which worked out really great, in this case. We talked for maybe 45 minutes and I really got the idea that I did very well ad libbing.
Doug and I have talked quite a bit over the years about the department and our profession (He had been a Nuclear Med Technologist before he got the director's job) and he pretty well knew me and where I stand on everything, but today I felt that I did a masterful job of laying out what I would do for the department.
It's still a wait-and-see thing, of course, and it won't be done 'til it's done... but I really feel good about it.
I completed my errands and came home and took off again to Lowes. I'd decided to wire in the phones and cable into the new kitchen so I had to get some cable and outlets. Once I got home again, I took Tyler out to eat (Taco Tico again) and then we came back home and worked some more. I had decided to put in an outside electrical outlet and two outdoor quartz lights over two of the new windows, so I started working on that while Tyler continued working on the insulation.
Tyler left about 15:30... one of his friends got paid today, and they were going to Lawrence to celebrate. I continued working on the wiring, getting almost finished by the time Karen got home.
And... we finally made some critical decisions on the design. Well, what we really did was decide to postpone a major decision... where we were going to put the bar.
We had decided that we wanted a bar, and we had three different places that it could go... but we finally realized that it would be silly to make that decision until we actually got the cabinets in. That way, we can better evaluate the space and figger out whether we even want a bar... in the meantime, there will be a 4X4 support in the middle of the room.
That being decided, we went out to buy a fan/light. We first went to ... damn, the store that's closing down... ah! Builder's square. Nothing there, so we went to Lowes. And Karen found one that she fell in love with. Not letting her hesitate, I picked up the box and we headed out the door. O'yeah, we did stop at the checkout first.
I wanted to hurry because I was very hungry, and so was Karen. We went to Ruby Tuesday... I'd never been there before, although Karen had. We were immediately seated, ahead of a bunch of people who were standing around waiting. They were waiting for non-smoking tables... I looked back at them with a big smile as we were being seated.
There are only about five tables in the smoking area, so we just walked in at the right time.
While we were waiting for our meal (which was very good, and the service was excellent!) we made another decision.
And this one has major ramifications, well beyond remodeling... we are going to seal off the (old kitchen) new laundry room with a door. Open up the cat door. Leave the basement door open. And... not allow the cats in the house part of the house.
I'm really tired of cats everywhere, "marking" their territory. Yeah, we only really have two right now. But even one cat pissing in inappropriate places has become intolerable.
And they have been carrying fleas in.
The new door is going to have priority. We need to start this NOW!
So, like I said, a very good day.
Tomorrow will be another full day of work, Herman is coming back over for a while and Tyler will be home early tonight (early for him, anyhoo...) so we should have some major accomplishments again.
More tomorrow...
