Nilknarf Journal

Journal Entry

It was a very productive day... but first, some administrative details...

I've not been able to log on to nilknarf.net tonight... it might be down again. But if you can read this, it's not.

And the nilky appears to have gone down a coupla days ago... at least, I haven't gotten them here (I'm on the list, too... so I can be sure that things are getting through...). So, if you haven't got the reminder notice, that's why.

Back to the day... we got a lot done today. Tyler was up when I got up, about 08:00. We started off going to Lowes, getting some electrical stuff and insulation. We came home and dropped that off and went out to breakfast at the Village Inn. I haven't been to breakfast for quite a while, so I had an omlette. Tyler had eaten a coupla egg mcmuffins or something, so he got a hot fudge brownie.

And I drank a pot of regular coffee... not decaffe. That might have made a big difference in how the day went...

We came home and got started. First things first... we had to re-arrange all of the furniture in the dining room. When that was done, we took out the high windows after we had removed the steel siding. Then we started removing drywall... and I discovered that there is no sidewall insulation in this house! No wonder our damned power bills are so high!

Getting the drywall down was so much fun, we decided to rip out the wall between the garage and the dining room while we were in the mood. That went pretty good, too. Right now the front deck is a disaster area, though... that's where all of the drywall went.

We had just finished rough-framing for the window when Herman came... I sent him up on the roof to finish the skylight. When he got back down, we finished the siding and started putting the windows in. They went in pretty good, we had made the frame looser for the last two after having difficulty with the first one.

Herm couldn't stay too long, so we made our way to the basement and looked at the electrical situation. We worked out an at-least temporary solution, and perhaps a long-term one. I sure hope so... it would be a big savings not to have to run 200 amp service in.

In the meantime, Karen had come home. She was amazed at the progress that had been made, and at the vast amount of space that opening up the area had given us.

We knocked off work about 07:00. I'm very tired, once again, I'm just not used to all of this physical work... and I love it!

More tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
