Journal Entry
Another excellent day, but we did get off to a slower start than yesterday...
I got up with Karen this morning, and Tyler wasn't home yet... he'd spent the night in Lawrence again. He's got friends down there that are into making the kind of music that he is (if anyone wants to hear a WAV file, I'll put one up...) and he wants to move over there after we get done with the kitchen. Anyhoo, I wait around for a while, then I decide the hell with it...
And I go back to bed.
I got up again around 11:00, and he had just gotten home. He claimed that he was well-rested, so we got right to work.
We went to Lowes to get the windows and the skylight and some 2X4s for the wall. We're having to build the wall in place, something that I tried to avoid but couldn't.
And... while I was contemplating on how to begin, I looked at my tape measure... and I noticed that it indicated studs every sixteen inches! For some reason or another, I had always thought that walls were built eighteen inches on center, as I stated yesterday. No wonder I never could find a stud when I wanted to... Damndamndamn, I hate to admit to being ignorant... but there it is. I wonder where I got that idea, anyway...
One major problem that we were having was getting the flooring (the throw-away doors from the hospital) straight and level. So, just from looking, it doesn't really appear that we got a lot done today, but we really did. Tomorrow will go much faster, and that is because of the work we did get done today...
Buddy Bob is going to bring me by some books tomorrow... since I've never hung a window, I really think that I should know a little bit more about it than I do now, and he said that he's got lots of household help books. I really do appreciate his help!
Tyler and I knocked off shortly after dark, mostly because the sound of pounding would probably disturb the neighbors. That, and the lack of light. Lacee was spending the evening with us, and she was taking a bath when we got done. She loves baths, and it took Karen quite a while to get her out of the tub so that Tyler and I could get cleaned up.
And now, Tyler's off for Lawrence again. Before he left, he called JD and I got to talk to him for a few minutes. I haven't talked to him for quite a while, it was really good to hear his voice. He will be coming up Thanxgiving; I'll be working that week, unless I get the supervisors' job...
And I am tired. So I'll upload this and get to bed...
