Journal Entry
Another longish day, but much better. I even feel half-way decent.
I got up around 08:00 and drank a pot of coffee... while I was contemplating the day, the phone rang. It was a girl from the Human Resources department at the hospital wanting me to come in for an interview. We settled on 13:00, and, since it was already 09:00, I decided that I didn't really have time to do anything, so I didn't.
The interview went fine, I thought. She gave me the impression that a decision was going to be made pretty quickly, which would be highly unusual, but possible, given the circumstances. I am really anxiously awaiting this one...
When I got home, Tyler was up and working... I had let him sleep until just before I left for the interview. He'd found a storage place for the garage door, I haven't even asked him what he did with it yet...
I don't think that I really want to know...
But I decided that we needed to go out and eat, since I was already cleaned up. He got a little cleaned up and we headed off for Denny's. Mistake. Slow service, mediocre food, slow service, old coffee... however, the slow service wasn't really a problem, since we got to sit and talk.
We started off with religion. He told me that his mother had converted to Lutherinism and had apologised for raising him and JD to be catholics. I told him that I would never apologise for trying to raise them to be atheists, I just hoped that I had done it well enough.
From there we went to general philosophy, which is never really very far from religion... I told him some things that would probably get me strung up if I said them publicly... and it's really hard to resist doing that right now, but it would take too long and I need to think it out a little bit more. It has to do with religion (natch) and politics and Natzism and communism and survival of the fittest... and intelligence and reason and logic.
After we had finished our meal, I decided that I wanted a chocolate malt. It was another 25-minute wait, but it was worth it...
Eventually, we had to leave and
get to work. We poured the foundation where the garage door was and did some more destructive work. Meanwhile, Karen had arrived home, and I demanded some decisions from her. And I got them. Slowly and deliberately, we eleminated having a fireplace right away. That can wait. Windows, however, we needed to make immediate decisions about... and we did. So, I finally know what I'm doing, and just in time, too.
Unfortunately, what we decided is going to be more work... we have two windows set very high in the wall next to the former garage/future kitchen... they were originally over a closet which I removed a few years ago. They are going to go, and be replaced with a normal window at a normal height.
So... tomorrow I'm going out to get three windows and a bunch of 2X8s and order a skylight. I hope that we can get the floor put in tomorrow, Wednesday we can build the wall and install the windows and Thursday I can start the electrical and the ductwork.
Well, that sounds pretty ambitious. Stretch that out a bit, maybe.
More tomorrow...
