Journal Entry
Announcement:
Updating the next few weeks will most likely be in the evenings; but maybe not. Hell, I might even miss a day...
Last night was another pretty easy one. I got to rub the fact that I was going to be gone into everyone's face... a very pleasurable experience. And a streak of three days of *no* ICU AM portables ended... I had three to do. The streak ended, though, and I'm glad of it... it made me uneasy. On five different occasions in the last six years there have been single days with no AM portables, but I had never had two in a row before, much less three. This is a streak that will stand for a long time.
For those of you who are confused by this... many open heart and other critical patients need to have a portable chest x-ray done on them daily. We have 16 beds in the ICU, and frequently there are orders for 12 or 14 of them to get chest films. And it falls on the night tech to get these done between 05:00 and when the doctors start coming in at about 06:30. This is frequently a burden when there is other stuff going on that needs to be done.
Probably once a month, the portables don't get done until the first shift comes in... and boyOboy do they bitch about it!
I found that Tyler was up when I got home, so we sat around and talked for a while... then I went to bed about 10:00 and slept 'til damn near 17:00, much longer than I wanted to. When Karen got home, we went out to look at the cabinets and pay for them... and they're beautiful. The main problem is that they open up some other possibilities... so we have even more decisions to make.
After looking at the cabinets, Karen and Tyler and I went out to Applebees... I haven't been there in quite a while. I had the salmon and it was excellent as usual... we sat in the non-smoking section because I'm doing it again.... not smoking, that is. I dunno, kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. We'll see how it goes.
More tomorrow....
