Journal Entry
I worked for an hour or so on the Keirsey Profiles before I took my nap. Wasn't much of a nap, though, I'm not sure if I really got to sleep.
And this is the day that I start getting worried about the turn-around... should I try to sleep some more or not?
I got a good nights' sleep last night, got up at 05:30 and went out to get the paper and ran smack dab into a large spiders' web. It was a large web and a large spider. I hit the spider with my forehead and the web went around my head and shoulders.
Now, I don't really mind spiders... no, spiders are my friends. They eat all kindsa bugs that I don't like... mosquitos and their ilk... but I really don't like them invading my personal space. Like being on my forehead in the dark when I've just gotten out of bed. No sir, I don't like that.
So I gently removed the spider from my head and sat him on the deck railing and chided him in a firm tone of voice.
Ah, you didn't believe that, did you? What really happened was... I brushed the spider off violently, caring not for his well-being at all, and ran screaming back into the house. Well, not screaming, but shuddering and babbling...
Not a really good way to start my morning.
A really neat quote from Poppy Dixon's Adult Christianity. "Christianity is less threatened by science than history." This site is hilarious and thought-provoking. Definitely recommended.
11:33...
Not getting much done today, once again there is a lack of ambition. I need to at least clean up the kitchen, then I'll most likely take a nap. I really need to work on getting the kids beds downstairs, but that's way too ambitious for me to even think about.
Come to think about it, so is cleaning the kitchen... but I promised Karen. Me and my big mouth...
Well. That wasn't very hard. Dishes done, kitchen clean. Now I won't feel bad about taking a nap...
More later...
No, no nap for me. Didn't even try. I went out to Best Buy to get a kitchen design program, and came home with Expert Software's Nome Design. A recommendation: don't have anything to do, ever, with Expert Software. This one froze up three times, then locked the machine completely.
So I took it back, knowing full well Best Buy's Software Return Policy: No Returns on Opened Software. Period.
So I stood at the return desk with trepidations; the gal ahead of me had Office '97 in her hand, trying to return it. No go. She said that it wouldn't load on her boyfriends computer. Sure. Right.
I explained the problem to the lady at the desk, and she said, "Sure, no problem. I've gotten three or four of these back." It might have helped that I was buying a similar, slightly more expensive program, Sierra's Kitchen & Bath.
Which works as advertised; I'm pretty pleased with it. So I've got the kitchen pretty much designed, only took me about 30 minutes. I'll recommend this program.
While I was out, I went to Lowes to look at cabinet bases that I could put a door on for my computer desk, and I found several options. The best of
which is a pair of base cabinets, unfinished oak, with a drawer and a door with storage space. About $50.00 apiece. And they'll look pretty nice. All I would need then would be a hutch-type thing. I really don't want to commit to building one with this other project going. But I really doubt that I will be able to buy one of the right dimensions.
I suppose I could use the old one... it's cobbled-together assorted pine boards, unpainted (mostly) and ugly as a mud fence. But serviceable.
I'm really excited about moving back upstairs. Back into the mainstream... nearer to Karen and all of the other action that occurs in this household, right now all happening out of my sight and hearing. In some ways, I'm better off down here, where I can figuratively bury my head in the sand...
I'm going to try to stay up all night tonight so I can sleep tomorrow. It's too late to try to sleep any today, and if I stay up 24 hours, I should be able to sleep, right? RIGHT?
O'well, I should remember what happened last week, I guess.
More tomorrow...
