Journal Entry
22:22 Saturday night...
Ten solid hours of sleep, and I am feeling a whole lot better. I was in bed about 09:30 this morning when Karen asked me if I had any money, and I didn't; so I got up and went to the Credit Union to get her some. I filled the caddy up while I was out, and I found my lost checkbook.
A coupla weeks ago, I called the credit union and ordered checks, but they haven't arrived yet. Karen called yesterday and they were supposed to call her back, but they didn't. We are now completely out of checks, and bills need to be paid.
And I knew that I had some blank checks in my checkbook, but I couldn't find it. I very seldom use it, and I had thought it was in my briefcase, but it wasn't. I'd kinda looked around recently for it, getting more and more frustrated, especially as we ran completely out of checks.
The caddy has a fuel door release button on the inside of the glove compartment, and as I pressed the button, I spied the edge of my checkbook... and I remembered putting it in there before I went to Oklahoma the last time.
When I got to the credit union, I asked about the check order. I was in the drive-up, since they don't have inside service on Saturdays, and there was a guy next to me in an old truck with an inadequate muffler system... inadequate is a generous term... and I couldn't hear the teller. He finally passed me a note in the tube system saying that the check order wasn't placed and that he would get them on the way.
I picked up several more doors from the hospital last night, but I need to unload them before I go anywhere tonight. I have to go to the hospital to give some stuff to Steve that I got off of the web about a new business he's getting started, and I might pick up a few more doors while I'm there...
So what's the deal with the doors? Well, I got this idea... I've been wanting to make the garage into a kitchen, we've been wanting to do this for ten years or so... and suddenly I have a supply of two-inch solid wood doors, free for the taking. After I got the first three (thinking about other uses) I decided that these free doors would make an excellent (and very cheap) floor for the new kitchen. I will need twelve of them, and I already have six, and there are eight more out by the dumpsters.
They all have beautiful laminated finishes, but there are holes for the doorknobs and latches in them, but that won't be much of a problem. There are a couple, however, with small glass windows that I'll have to fill in... again, no big problem.
I've thought a lot about how to design and built a kitchen... after all, I've been thinking about it for ten years... about the normal length of time that it takes me to bring any project to fruition. Anyhoo, instead
of cabinets which are expensive and designed to hide things, I really want an open look... racks for dishes and glasses, cantilevered countertops with rolling drawer-sets that fit underneath them, overhead racks for pots and pans and anything else that will hang... so the only things that will be "built-in" will be the sink, the stove and the dishwasher.
A lot of this will be dependent on the amount of energy and money that I have to spend on this project... and I plan on spending more energy than money. I know, I never sound like I have much energy, but I've almost always got more energy than money...
Much later....
I wound up going to sleep about 04:00 and getting up at 08:00 with a horrible headache that did not respond to the normal ministrations... so I went back to bed. I got up a coupla hours later and did the update on the Keirsey Profiles, then went back to bed again.
As usual, when I announce a Profiles update, I got a bunch of people who want to be added; I usually let them sit until there are enough to make it worthwhile to re-do them or a coupla weeks, whichever happens first. But this time I got ten, so I guess I should just go ahead and do it again.
It takes an hour or so after I've got all of the info entered to produce the pages; I use Microsoft Access, which is pretty neat, 'cause it'll let you write a HTML file using a template. On the other hand, it's a pain because it doesn't do links or email addresses... which is what I'm doing, naturally. It changes all of the quote marks and brackets so that they'll show up on the page as quotes and brackets, which defeats the whole purpose. And it also puts in a lot of additional stuff that I don't want... like it describes the font in each and every cell. So I use Homesite to change and delete all of that, and since there is so much of it, it's very time-comsuming. The file size is reduced to about 1/3 of what it was by the time I'm finished.
Anyhoo, I finally got back to sleep about the time the family got back from Wichita... and I got up again about 01:00. So, technically, I missed a day. But I will not let technicalities stand in the way of maintaining a perfect record. I'll just cheat a little.
And I've still got the damned headache.
