I have not smoked for    Days!

Hi There!

Back in good ol' Topeka Town. It feels good to be home. I had an interesting ride back... but first: I should have not said anything about sleeping well yesterday... last night I didn't get to sleep until after 02:30, if not later. And slept poorly, at that.

So I didn't get out of bed until about 10:00, when the circuit breaker blew on the air conditioner. Dead silence will wake me up anytime. Mom's house is wired for 60 amps, I believe... two ACs, the computer and fridge and the microwave put too much of a load on it.

Anyway... I have a really neat family. We all get along together so well and are so intellectually compatible... sure, a lot of this may be due to distance, but I don't really think so. I would love them all if they lived next door... and I hope that they feel the same way. I think that they do...

Anyway, those of you who are really sharp will have noticed the re-appearance of the clock t the top of this entry. Yep, that's right... I quit again on the drive up here, after I'd bought another pack for the road... I smoked one of them, then threw the cigs and lighter to the side of the road. That was about 13:00 or so. Doing fine right now.

The ride home... well, the temperature, if you have been paying attention to the news and weather, has been over 100 for the last week in OK, and a lot longer than that in Texas. And this afternoon, just north of the Ponca City Turnoff, the gage on the caddy said 104F.

As soon as I got out of Enid, I noticed a cloud bank in the north, just a little bit above the horizon. This didn't change much as I travelled east on highway 60, but once I started north on I-35 it covered more and more of the northern sky.

I broke into the clouds just north of Wichita... and I noticed that the temp dropped to 94F. Just south of El Dorado, it was at 84F, and I hit the rain north of El Dorado. It was 74F in Emporia and still raining.

980722.jpg There was a 30 degree differential there... what a bunch of energy these fronts contain! I certainly hope that system makes it's way into the Enid vicinity tonight... they sure do need some relief.

And it is nice in Topeka... the temp had gone up to 85F by the time that I got here, but that's still a whole lot better than 104F!

And there were 1500 messages on my mail system. It'll probably take a week to sort through all of them...

So that's it for today... it's a little after 19:00, and I think that I'll go to bed.

Thanx for being here!
