By Gum, I think it might've worked this time!
I slept from 10:00 to 18:00! Eight Hours!
I worked on installing the new Modem this morning. It appears that I have bought two modems that don't do what I want them to do... first the card-modem that wants at least a Pentium 100, and now one that Compaq doesn't like at all. The damned thing won't even boot up with the modem installed... just sits there and quivers, trying to read from the A: drive... but I can't even boot it up with a rescue disk.
And then it's happier'n hell when I put the Compaq modem back in. Hmmm... I didn't try it with both modems installed, maybe I can disable the Compaq one... some other day.
I also tried installing Front Page '98 again, changing the date on my machine. I found, once again, that it is mostly a complicated and unusable bitch of a program. I was thinking about using it for a front-end for a database that I could put up, but the investment in time would be better spent learning something of some real use... like fixing my mailing list.
Which I have not quite given up on yet. Not quite, but I'm getting close. I can get no help at all from LiquidWeb on why it doesn't work or on how to make it work and I'm getting frustrated with them. I can't even find out if it's a majordomo thing or a list-serv thing.
I'm getting tired of being frustrated by my machines and their software minions... but I love them anyway. Unrequited love... eternal angst, machine relationships.
On another note entirely... the weather here has been atrocious lately, but it's better today. It's been like the deep South... hot, humid, simply unbearable for this old guy. Today the humidity is down slightly, though, maybe things will get better.
And one-third of the summer is gone, and I've only been fishing twice. Crying shame, I guess.
The fourth of July... the only holiday that I really like, and even at that I don't like it too much. This year will be a wash, since I will be working. I just hope that too many kids don't blow their hands or fingers off... or if they do, they go to some other hospital. I know... bad attitude...
O'yeah, hardly anyone has signed My GuestBook... c'mon, you know you want to! Jody and Lynda have! It works, even though it's a little plain... my boy JD even signed it! So jump on the bandwagon!
I just haven't been able to get into it this year, too much else occupying my little mind. And it's been too damned hot, too, for anything but very early-morning fishing.
