Current Journal Entry

Wednesday, 24 June, 1998 10:38

As some of you may have noticed, there was a blurb for Ginkgo in yesterday's entry, and I will repeat it again today and for the next week. Ginkgo.jpgThis is Ginkgo Week in some parts of the journalling community... most parts. Ginkgo has a very fine site with lots of original grafix and really heart-felt journal entries. She's one of my favorite daily reads, and a bunch of us (I was a johnnie-come-lately) have decided to celebrate her this week. She is a very creative and warmhearted person... go visit her site.

There seem to be a few people who are against "Ginkgo Week" and they are being vocal about it. Which is quite all right, of course.

Some of those people say that by celebrating Ginkgo Week, we are dissing another journaller; those who say that are wrong. Well, I must say, I only speak for myself.

A Very Important Journaller has words to this effect in her tagline: Not only is it important that I succeed, but others must fail. This is meant as sarcasm, but it does seem to be the prevailing attitude in the situation.

And yes, it is kinda silly. What the hell, this is the 'net. We can be silly if we want to, when we want to, individually or collectively.

Imagine, some people feel that designating every Friday night "Nilknarf Night" was silly too. But that doesn't diminish the popularity or the uninhibited exhibitionism of Nilknarf Night, does it?

>>>>>SUBJECT SHIFT>>>>>CAUTION!>>>>>

In other news: The Ring of Xians has one member; Atheist Journals has nine. Hmmm. We're gaining on 'em!

And a coupla quotes from their Home Site:

And the spelling and grammar are atrocious, too.

Anyhoo... the laptop modem. When I got it, I read that it was for 100mh+ pentiums. Well, I thought, it just won't work as well on my 486-33. WRONG! The setup file runs a file named "Probechp.exe" or something like that. More like seek and destroy. So not only does it spit upon and otherwise disparage my little 486, and laugh at it, it gets it in a headlock and breaks its neck. Very unfriendly program, that one.

And I still don't have the 56K modem in the Compaq, either. And I'm too dullwitted to attempt it now. Maybe tomorrow.

I did get some sleep yesterday, about 6.5 hours, and I feel a little bit better. I was all caught up by about 23:30 and I started writing, saying how easy of a night it was looking like it was going to be... and that was all it took. So I immediately got paged and ran for the next three hours.

So... the van is gone, the bank has the money. Something less to worry about now. I was kinda thinking about getting a newer laptop, but I 980625decided to pay some bills instead. I'm getting less frivolous as I get older, I guess.

And I also get tireder easier. And lots of other things that I don't wanna talk about.

Karen and I will be going to her HS reunion this weekend in Parsons, KS., her home town. I think it'll be fun, it has been in the past. SO there might not be an entry Saturday... or maybe there will be.... depends on whether or not I can get access.

Tomorrow...

Thanx for being here!
