Finally better... well, OK, I was only sick for like a day-and-a-half, but I got really tired of it.
Yesterday was spent fighting with the computer again. I swear that I will never buy another Compaq.
I decided that I had just had enough of Compaq, and I would install the regular copy of WIN95 on this machine. Should be no problem, huh. Well, it generally wasn't... until I tried installing the modem. Win95 doesn't know anything about the Compaq modem, and it even goes so far as to deny the existence of such a thing as a Compaq modem. Especially id it's on Com2. Because, you see, Com2 doesn't exist, either. Not on this Compaq, not in the eyes(?) of WIN95.
It would, if I asked it to nicely, install comm ports one through ten, but not two. Never, never touch two, is its mantra.
So I finally gave up and reinstalled the Compaq version of WIN95, which has been tweaked to recognize Compaq's failings. And yes, I do feel defeated, beaten, broken again by this damned machine.
It's OK, I'm getting used to it by now.
I thought that I would take a cheerful picture today and then render it almost unrecognizable.
And there's another update in the Dying Diary. I've been going really slow with this one, but not nearly as slowly as I am with This Project
I just hate the way that I get all enthusiastic about something, then I get stuck on a little problem and put it aside... like forever, sometimes. I suppose everyone does that at some time or another, but I do it a lot. Kinda like, I want to stretch myself, but it's too much of an effort, and inertia overcomes me.
A lot like my Linux deal... there it sits, waiting for me to figger out the first steps. Once that is done, the rest will be easier, I just gotta get over that hump.
Karen and I went out for dinner at Applebees, then out to Sams Club to get some necessities, like coffee and peanut butter. We came back and Garyn came over with Andy and Karla, Garyn is mowing the lawn now. Even from the basement, I can hear him hitting various objects, most of them sound hard, like rocks. He hasn't hit anything hard enough to stop the mower yet, though... so far...
It's hot out... like 90 F or so. Not bad if you're just sitting. It set a record yesterday in Wichita... 108F. I stay inside mostly on days like this.
17:20... I just got a call from JD and Tyler down in Texas... they say that it's real hot down there. Which is why I don't venture very much southward in the summers... Oklahoma is about as far as I get, and then only with desperate need. Like, I need to see my mother really soon! I will be going down the middle of July when brother Dan and Lynn and Charlie pass through, though.
OK, enough for today... I need to join in on the festivities... I haven't heard the mower going for the last ten minutes or so...
