Unable to get to sleep (and I think that's good...) I've been roaming the journals on the web. And I came up with this. Read it and come back, and I'll tell you a story.
OK, you're back. You did go read it, didn't you? Did you stray and start reading her journal, too? Pretty good stuff, huh. Anyhoo....
Here I am, what a cherubic,
We were herded into a classroom one day, the lights were turned off... O'goodie, we were going to see a movie! This was not an everyday occurrence... it was highly unusual.
WWII had been over for eight years... Korea for two, anyway... and they showed us pictures of tanks and planes, fighting the dirty krauts. And the dirty japs, too. And then...
This was all black and white, mind you, and the film was kinda jerky. But we saw people living in the concentration camps, begging for food.
And then we were shown a line of people being led to stand before a pit in the ground. There were six of them, I couldn't tell if they were male or female. Soldiers came up behind them and aimed at their heads and fired and the people tumbled into the pit... and another six took their places. Shuffling along, silent, doomed, knowing what was going to happen to them and completely defenseless. Staring down at the bodies in the pit, waiting for that thud on their heads and then nothing... the soldiers fired again, and six more were led to the pit.
I don't know how long that went on, but I have nightmares about it to this day.
What the fuck were those people doing showing us this shit? And what was the point?
I can't even get an anti-xian angle on it, it was that bizarre.
I don't know if this was a widespread practice in Oklahoma schools or not... I have never talked to anyone else who saw this film in school. On the other hand, if a kid was going to block something out of his/her memories, this would be the thing.
I wish that I could.
innocent-looking little boy. I was about eight or so. I'm guessing on the dates... but I know that I was in Enid, going to Adams Grade School. Third or fourth grade.
