...in the Middle of the Night...

Karen got me up at about 18:15 tonight, so I got about eight hours of sleep. We had to go over to Andy and Karlas to get the two single beds that we got from Karen's folks house when they left Parsons and moved to Wichita. On the way, we saw some of the damage from this mornings storm. There were two major areas of damage: 29th and Fairlawn and 21st and Gage. Drawing a line on a map between these two spots, you would find that our house is exactly in the middle... and we had no real damage at all. Go figger.

It's been a very busy night here so far, it's only a little past midnight and I've done five CT scans and fifteen other assorted exams since I got here at 21:00. The ED is just about cleaned up now, though, hopefully there won't be too much more. But it is Friday night...

I got a surprise just after I got here... JD and Lisa were here! They had made it from Huntsville in about ten hours... which is making pretty good time. And JD has gotten his hair cut off! He looks a lot younger but strangely more mature. But maybe that's just my bias on it. It was awful good to see him and Lisa, though, but I sent them back home pretty quick, since it was easy to tell that the situation here (at work) was rapidly deteriorating. They were barely out the door before I was up to my ass in alligators.

Later....
And it lasted almost all night long. My patient flow was steady, but the communications with the ED were really haywire. They were really busy and understaffed, and everyone seemed confused. It was like pulling teeth to get the proper orders on the proper people, and I wound up doing almost all of the transporting myself. Not that I mind that, especially when they're busy, but the problem would occur when they told me that they would bring a patient over... and then they wouldn't. So I would wind up waiting ten minutes, get frustrated, go to get the patient myself and find out that nobody was planning on transporting the patient... the message had been lost somewhere. This happened about four 980516.jpgtimes. And then the last patient that I needed to get, after all of the hullaballoo was over, there were three nurses standing around staring at me... But I didn't lose it. It was really close, but I didn't lose it.

Home now... everyone is asleep, I decided to not wake them up. I saw a bunch more damage from yesterdays storm, especially down by the hospital. And then I got home, and discovered that no one had signed my guestbook! I am apalled. So I'm compelled to beg you: it's in the upper-left-corner of your screen. It says "Sign my guestbook". Click on it and follow the instructions. Having a guestbook that only has been signed by the page owner is pathetic. And you don't want to be accused of reading a pathetic journal, do you? So sign the damned thing! (O'yeah, if it's not working {which could be another reason why nobody's signed it} let me know!)

I was kinda planning on staying up all day, but I do believe that I'm gonna go to sleep for a little while.

Thanx for being here!
