It's been a long day after a long night... I stayed up until about 19:00 last night, then I slept until about 03:30. Then I was all done sleeping. It seems like I got a lot done yesterday, but I can't for the life of me remember what I did. Ah, the joys of fatigue...
But I did get a lot done today... moved a lot of junk downstairs, including the bookcase. It wouldn't quite fit down the staircase, and I remembered that I had disassembled it to get it upstairs. Unfortunately, I didn't remember this until I had proved to myself that no, it wouldn't fit down the

stairwell. So my choices were to either take it back up half of the stairs and disassemble it or find another way to do it. So I got a hand saw and cut off a six-inch wedge out of the center leg, just enough to let it come down. And the functionality is still the same, and the appearance is not too much different... it's unfinished 2X12s and 1X12s anyway...
The next challenge... get WIN95 installed on the laptop. This proved to be a problem. I've got 3.5" backups, but they won't let me install over another system... and I didn't want to

wipe out Win 3.1, because I gave away my only legal copy of that. And I have a brand-new copy of WIN95... on CDROM. Which the notebook doesn't have, natch. So I had to wipe the hard drive on the portable, and then it worked just fine... only very slow. Did I mention how slow it was? It was very, very S...L...O...W...
O'yeah, yesterday I went to Best Buy and got a parallel connector cable, so I could hook up the laptop to the Compaq. So I can download software for it on the Compaq and then transfer it over... and that works really good. After I spent an hour or so figgering it out, anyway...
So, right now I'm downloading MSIE 3.03 to use on the laptop, I decided against using 4.01 because the HD on this thing is a whopping 120 MB... and I'm getting used to the 8+gigs on the Compaq. O'well, lean and mean. All I really need on this machine is a way to dial in and FTP and write with notepad...
It is a beautiful day, and I should be out fishing. I just spent some time out on the front deck reading. I'm starting
Consilience, which brother Dan recommended. I'm through the first two chapters, and it is fascinating reading so far.
When I can back in, MSIE3.03 had quit downloading due to a time-out. Amazingly, I reconnected and it picked up where it left off! This pleased me a bunch, since it's taken about two hours so far...
Waiting for Karen and Kim and the kids to get home, I hope that they had a good time in Wichita. Actually, I haven't had time to miss them... but now that I think about it, I have. On the other hand, some solitude is pretty nice too. I had kinda considered going down with them, but decided against it. I would've been miserable without sleep, and I had so damned much to do here. Of course, there's always so much to do here...
I'm suddenly very tired. Karen and the kids just got back, she appears to be in a bad mood, and I reacted badly to that... O'well, this too shall pass.
JD called to wish Karen a happy mothers day, and he and Tyler will be up next Friday. And that reminded me... that I'd better call Mom; she's doing pretty good, but she sprained an ankle last week and is still hobbling around from it... she has strawberries!
More tomorrow...
