While you were sleeping...

Well, it finally worked. I knew if I kept at it long enough, it would.

Unfortunately, I'm talking about sleeping, not Joe's computer.

But having the sleeping work was quite an accomplishment, in and of itself. I feel decent for the first time this week. And, since it's Friday, I might have a good chance to feel good all weekend! And I've got a lot to do this weekend... finish cleaning out the old computer room, get a bed to put in it, get a lot of stuff finished up on the yard... maybe even get a chance to get caught up on my email! I'm on numerous notify lists, and I've gotten way behind on my journal reading.

Pretty slow night tonight. I'm really surprised... full moon, too, and the worst doctor (for ordering xrays... he's really a pretty good doctor) is on. I guess that I'm just lucky. I'll know by morning if I am or not, anyway...

Later...

No, I'm not lucky. In fact, just the opposite... and my downfall involved a computer, naturally.

About 03:30 the ER called and wanted a spiral CT of the abdomen on a patient with a suspected kidney stone. As I had mentioned earlier, this is a pretty simple procedure normally; I've done quite 980509.jpga few with no problem. So, I got the patient on the table, did the scout film, set up the program for the spirals and got started... or rather, tried to.

But the damned thing said that the disk was full. OK, I looked, and it was. So I just need to delete some archived files, right? Well, this machine doesn't quite work that way. You must delete the files, then shut down the machine completely before it knows that the files are deleted. OK, so I did that... the patient was still on the table, and it takes about 20 minutes. This was a very patient patient, and drugged up pretty good because of his pain.

So I did the scout the second time, set it up... and the same thing happened again! The computer wouldn't recognize that the disk was no full any more! So I deleted every patient file on the disk and tried again... with still no luck. Same thing.

I had another CT patient to do, a head this time, so I had them bring him over, and the machine worked just great. Of course, doing a brain only takes about 19-20 images, so it knew there was space...

So I tried to do the abdomen again... same results again. Then I called the radiologist and explained the situation to him, and he decided to come in and we would do an IVP on the patient. By this time, it was 05:30, and I normally start my portable chests in the units at 05:00, and they were wondering where the hell I was, so I let then know that I was going to be late.

I finally wound up getting the chests done right before 07:00, and I got out of the door about 07:30. When I got home, everyone was up and getting ready to go to Wichita. So I'll be batchin' it this weekend, get a lot of stuff done maybe. Or maybe just sleep a lot. Depends on what I feel like doing...

Thanx for being here!
