Well, using the CT, if we prove that their pain isn't caused by a stone, the physician can continue to research other possible causes of the pain.
Anyway, I did two patients last night that were positive; I've done three others in the last two weeks, but they were all negative.

evaluating a patient for kidney/ureteral stones, using a spiral C.T. method. It is really pretty slick and extremely accurate with a cooperative patient. We used to have the patient wait until the morning and do an IVP (intravenous pyelogram) on them using contrast material (some people call it *xray dye* but it isn't really dye...). However, if the IVP was negative, we've wasted a lot of time just waiting. If it is a kidney stone, they will have to wait for the urologist to see them anyway, and they will be given pain meds, since we know that it's a temporary condition.
