Thursday 02 APRIL 1998...

We finally got an early start to a day! Driving to Sedona, the town with "The Mysterious Vortexes", where we have a room for the night.

We stopped for breakfast at the Crystal Springs Cafe on Judys' recommendation, it was very good. Quaint little place, reasonably priced.

We went through Cottonwood Falls to get to Sedona. It was an awesome drive, especially for these Kansas kids... beautiful scenery every minute. We were driving around with our jaws hanging down most of the time. We did the Oak Creek Canyon drive, went about half-way to Flagstaff... the route we will take tomorrow to the Grand Canyon. Today is cloudy, but it might be worse tomorrow...

I can't believe how impressed I am with this terrain... I want to live here, die here. I always thought that I wasn't that impressed with scenery... go figger.

And to think that Karen and I were so impressed with Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods... this place has it beat all to hell. I want a job here... no, take that back... I just want to be here, but someone is going to have to support me... any takers? O'yeah, you gotta support Karen too...

I took two-and-a-half rolls of film today, even though it was mostly cloudy... I think that I got some really good ones, too.

We ate at another mexican place again about 16:00, then checked into the motel (a non-smoking room!) and then went driving around some more... red rock loop and then Dry Gulch Road... beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!

We decided to stop for some coffee before going back to the motel, and drove by a theater that was showing a bunch of good shows that we've been wanting to see, including As good as it Gets. We had about 45 minutes to kill, so we got coffee in a place next door to the theater, and I got a $4.50 chocolate confection that was wonderful. Karen and I "shared" it... in other words, she had about two bites.

We really enjoyed the show, Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt were both brilliant, and the show was good entertainment. No special effects, not much violence or vulgarity. We then went back to the motel and slept very well... we had done a lot of walking as well as a lot of driving today, and we were both exhausted.

Thanx for being here!
