30 MARCH 1998

Monday 30 MARCH 1998...

We got up earlier today, Karen and I had breakfast alone, since Chuck and Judy had to go to work. I was meeting Charles at the First Watch Restaurant (a non-smoking establishment...). I could see the place from the interstate, but I had trouble finding the access road...

So... I had left early because I anticipated getting lost. I was there 30 minutes early, anyway, so I went on inside and gave my name and Charles name to the waitress, telling her that he was meeting me there. I was seated where I couldn't see the door, but I was confident that the waitress remembered that I was waiting for someone; I went ahead and ordered a pot of coffee... and drank it. The place closes at 14:30, and at 13:30 I decided that something had happened to Charles, so I went ahead and ordered lunch.

Unfortunately, Charles had arrived right on time, 13:00, and waited for me outside, sure that I would recognize him and that he would recognize me... and he was right on both counts. He had not counted on me being there so early, however, and I should've insisted on a seat so that I could see the door... ah, regrets. What if...

Anyway, Charles came in shortly after my food arrived, and we had a nice conversation. He struck me as being very much the person that he represents himself as being in his journal, a truly nice person. Unfortunately, again, I think that we were both awkward due to the mixup in meeting, but I enjoyed our conversation. Neither one of us mentioned religion(!) but we talked about music and jobs and more mundane stuff. I do believe that if we lived in the same town we would be good friends.

I found my way back to Chuck and Judys' with no problem, but I found that Judy and Karen had left for a walk just before I got there, dammit. Judy gets off work at noon. So I was on my own...

And I decided to take a nap. No go, three pots of coffee had taken their toll. I got up and found CNN on the TV and immersed myself in the worlds' troubles again. Judy and Karen got back, they had walked about 1/3 of the way up a mountain (Squaw peak?) and Karen's feet hurt, so I rubbed them for her while we watched TV.

Chuck got home from work, and we had supper, salmon and 2X baked potatoes.(in case I haven't mentioned it before, Judy is an excellent cook!) Then we just basically sat around and BSed for the rest of the evening. For the evenings' finale, Chuck got out his blood pressure machine and we all took turns taking our BP. Chuck and I are normal, 'cause we're both on BP medication, Karen is normal because she is, and Judy seems to be dead, according to her BP, but she says that she's always that way.

Karen did get a good nights' sleep in a separate room, and so she will sleep by herself for the remainder of our time here in Phoenix. I just hope that she doesn't get into the habit of sleeping alone...

Thanx for being here!
