Well, I got the laryngitis for real... I could hardly tell my patients to hold their breath last night. And the doc that was on told me it'd get worse before it got better...

Did get some good news, though...Doug got the director's job. This means that there is a pretty good chance that I'll be considered for the Radiology systems manager when the job gets approved... and that started me thinking...

Every time that I've gotten a position of power/authority, it has been because of my links to influential people who knew me and knew that I did a good job. But any time that I've tried to get a position without some influential backing, I've flunked out.

I just don't do a good job of marketing/selling myself. I guess that I just don't want to put the effort into it or maybe I just don't have that much self-confidence. I'm much more interested in doing a good job at whatever I'm doing than putting out a lot of effort to get a more challenging position. So I just wait for someone to recognize my talents and use me. So far that's worked pretty well, except for the time six years ago when I got on the wrong side of the political fence...

It was a long, hard night. I got up at 18:00 after sleeping nine hours and I got to work right at 19:00; it was balls to the wall until about 02:00 or so. My legs are really tired from the running.

After about 22:00, the only other tech with me was called to surgery. I hadn't really had time to find out what all was going on, so I thought that she was really busy from all of the pager traffic. But come to find out, she had gotten locked in the darkroom in surgery and it took them 45 minutes to find her and get her out. They had disconnected the phone in there and it's on a dead-end hall, so she had to yell pretty loud to get heard.

I glad it wasn't me, I never would've been heard last night...

But anyway, she got out with very little trauma, but the door had to be totally wasted, I guess.

I'm going to bed.
