22 MARCH 1998

As usual, yesterday (that would be Saturday) did not turn out the way I had planned... Saturdays are like that a lot.
I went to bed shortly after I posted yesterday, and spent an hour not sleeping. So I got up and asked Karen if she would rub my legs, and she did. That part was wonderful, as usual... but before she left, she said something to the effect that she was sorry that the kids had been eating in bed, we would have to wash the sheets tomorrow...
Which made me itchy all over. I tried to overcome my mind, but I failed. I imagined cracker crumbs between me and the mattress no matter how I turned. In fact, there were no cracker crumbs anywhere but in my mind, but there were aplenty there...
So I finally got up, took a shower and resigned myself to going to Lacee's party. But before I left, I put the sheets in the washer.
Lacee's party was as expected, however. Millions of kids running around, everyone having fun (with the exception of yours truly, of course) and spending money like they actually had some. At one point I was leaning on a rail beside the money machine... kids and moms and dads would put in a five or ten and get tokens in return... the line was constantly shrinking and expanding, like a bellows blowing money into the owner's pockets. Why can't I think of a racket like that?
So, after standing around for 45 minutes, I made a graceful exit under the scornful and jealous eyes of every other adult in the place. I came home and finished washing the sheets... I had not put the lid down on the washer, so I had to re-do them... and spent some time reading journals. One of my favorites, Gus's Musings, shuts down MSIE every time I go there, I don't know what he's doing different... so I haven't read him for a week or two, and I miss it.
Once the sheets were dry, I put them back on the bed (Yes, we do have more than one set of sheets, but these are my favorites!) and tried once again to go to sleep, again unsuccessfully. By this time I'm starting to get crabby. Everyone comes back from Lacee's party, and nobody seems to be in a good mood. And now it's time for...
Matt's party! Lacee on the 20th, Matt on the 21st... people started arriving around 18:00 for this one. And I spent most of the evening on this machine, not being very fit company for anyone by this time, especially inebriated company. Nobody got very drunk, however.
I downloaded Compaq's special edition of MSIE 4.0, thinking that might solve the problem I was having at Gus's site, but it wasn't...
Everyone was gone by 23:30, and I had been up 28 hours and I finally crashed until 09:00 this morning.
And this is going to be another beautiful day... sun shining, gentle south breeze... well, OK, 20-30 MPH winds from the south... temp will get to around 50 today, even higher tomorrow.
I'm going to make an effort to enjoy this day, and I hope that you do too.
Thanx for being here!
