While you were sleeping...
If my mother's mother, Grandma Mabel, were alive today she would be 100 years old.
She isn't though, so it's a moot point. I don't really remember when she died, either, but she had a disabling stroke in 1967, and my mother took care of her until she died. I think that she had died when Karen and I got married in 1984; my uncle Earl died in the fall of '84, and she was gone then. And she was alive when I got divorced from my first wife, in 1979. Hmmmm... I though I could jog my memory, but I guess not. I don't remember going to her funeral, but that doesn't mean much... those were my drinkin' days, there are a lot of things that I don't remember.
For those of you who are keeping track, I did start smokinmg again Sunday evening. I was wearing a 21mg/day patch, and I used an additional one when the cravings got really bad... but it didn't help any. I think that I'm going to give up on it until vacation.
I spent two hours doing a CT scan of the head of a two-year-old girl. She was a real cutie, but she didn't want to go to sleep. I just have to have them hold their heads still for 3-4 minutes, but that's impossible for an awake kid. And most of them are really wired after other people get done sticking them with needles for blood and doing other unpleasant things to them. Anyway, she finally fell asleep, and then my computer went down. A totally inappropriate time, of course, for this to happen. I had to re-boot, and that takes about five minutes; luckily, she stayed asleep and I was able to get the exam completed after the re-boot. And it was negative, of course, as they usually are.
This little one had fallen and hit her head, then started vomitting. The problem is that when kids cry really hard, they swallow air and their stomaches get destended... then bam! projectile vomitting. Just like what happens with a major head injury. So we don't take chances... I've seen too many positive diagnoses. Only about 5 percent, but that's enough to justify a conservative approach.
Karen and I are planning on going to Wichita tomorrow, kinda to celebrate my birthday, plus she hasn't seen her Mom for quite a while. Then Saturday I will drive down to Enid and see Mom, help her some with her computer. Karen might go with me or she might stay and visit in Wichita.
I got a good solid ten hours of sleep yesterday, didn't get up until almost 19:30. But I'm ready to hit the sack right now, it's only 08:45 but I'm draggin'. I didn't really have to work that hard last night, either. Maybe I'm still playing catch-up with the sleep.
Or maybe I'm just back to what passes for normal around here...
