In the middle of the night...

Right now, I'm too tired to even talk coherently, and some of my best journal entries were composed while I was in a like state.

Don't be expecting too much though... I said some, after all...

Sunday night, Karen and I sat down to watch The English Patient. I was having some trouble concentrating on the show anyway, and the grandkids were both wound up pretty tight, so I gave up on it. Went into the computer room and got online to read some journals and whatnot... but Kim thought that I was mad again. Kim doesn't know how to read me very well, unlike her mother. And after the tantrum I threw a couple of weeks ago that surprised everyone, who can blame her? But I wasn't... I don't think that I was in a proper movie-watching mood, anyway. I wasn't in much of a journal-reading mood/mode either. I think that I'm getting spring/fishing fever.

These last two days have been horrible for my mood. Working with computers is inherently frustrating, and I was not in the mood for that at all. I was wanting to do things on the computer, not fight with it.

But fight we did, and I won at least a partial victory, though it was hard-fought. I think that my main problem is that it's a Compaq, and I think that what initiated my problems was the ICQ program. I have heard of it being hard on Compaqs, but I didn't pay any attention to that... I should've. And even though I'm not really sure that that was the problem, I'm not gonna load ICQ back up again.

I've complained about Compaq's "quick-restore" not being what it's name says it is: quick. And the 31-disk windows backup sucks big eggs, too. I have a WIN95 CD that came with the machine... but it doesn't have the initial install program on the disk. You have to use the QR program, which wipes out the C drive and re-installs all of the original programs... the AOL, the GNN, the Quicken SE... all that shit. Then it'll put WIN95 back.

But this time, it wouldn't find the right driver for the monitor, and it's never had that problem before. And I can't get MS powertool quickres to work, because it won't work with the generic driver. So I have to do it blind... reset the driver by guessing (I have the monitor book, and it's no help at all) then re-booting. If it doesn't work, re-boot again in SAFE mode and hope that it'll let me change the drivers again. Monday it told me that I couldn't change drivers in the SAFE mode, which again sucks big eggs. But that was when WIN95 would only install incompletely... so I don't know what'll happen today.

And I lost all of my email addresses again... I thought that I had saved them along with the messages, but no... luckily, I did find a file of SENT mail and got the people on the reminder list put back in.

And speaking of addresses... I found an Excel file of my address book that I deleted last week. I'll have to do some wrangling to get it back into Schedule-plus, though... but at least I still have the info.

Enough for now... more maybe after I get home....

Later it is now, and I'm just going to put this up and go to bed.

Thanx for being here!
