In the middle of the night...

It was not a very good day for sleeping; I don't know why. When I called Karen at 06:00 yesterday, she told me that she had a headache, and I woke up when she got home about 15:45. Gave her a back and shoulder rub, which sometimes helps her, but it didn't today.

I didn't get to sleep until around 11:00, but I felt pretty rested, so I stayed up. Kim fixed mexican for supper and I ate too much... paid for it later.

Karen was still feeling crummy, so she went to bed around 20:00, awfully early for her (or anyone else in the family). I came on in to work and it was a zoo for the next four hours.

Much of that time was taken up with a very intoxicated young lady who had totaled her car out... she called me every name that she could think of while I was taking her x-rays. She was uncooperative and combative, besides being abusive, and we were all glad to see her go out the door handcuffed and headed for jail. She did not want to be here, at the hospital, and she especially didn't want to be in jail. Too bad...if she doesn't change her lifestyle, she will spend a lot of time in jails.

I'm still constantly amazed at how stupid people are... I've had two relatively young, supposedly intelligent males this week who didn't want to have their x-rays done because it might make them sterile. I tried to explain to them what a miniscule amount of radiation they would be getting, and how their gonads would be getting essentially none, and that it would take massive amounts of radiation to sterilize someone.

I think that they were trying to make a statement about their male virility, which actually has little to do with reproduction; I did give them lead in both cases, although I personally think that the gene pool would be better off with them staying out of the water, so to speak....

The lack of sleep is definitely kicking in now... I can hardly hold my eyelids up, even with massive doses of coffee. And I'm all caught up on everything, just have to wait until 05:00 or for something to come in the ED door... something exciting, I hope, if it happens. I haven't had a good code red in a month or so...

Home finally!

Well, I got my second wind in there somewhere... I made it through the last few hours. Had a meet with my supervisor for the last half-hour; we meet once a month on a Friday and I always forget about it....

The last hour or so was pretty busy, our clerk Pat finally called in sick... I say finally, because she's come to work every day this week sick. I'm
This is amazing! For the first time ever when I used the spell-checker, there were no unknown words found! And then I remembered that I hadn't done this table thing in quite a while, either...
sorry that she got sick enough to call in though... she must be damned near on her death bed to do that. Talk about the old protestant work ethic... that girl's got it bad! So anyway, I had to answer the phone and check in patients, which I kinda like doing anyway... and thankfully I didn't get called away to x-ray anyone.

So now I'm in my usual just-got-home state... the bed looks pretty damned good! If I go to sleep now, I can get up when Karen gets home and have had enough rest, I think. If I can get to sleep now being the operative part of that sentence....

But damn! It's worth a try!

More tomorrow!

Thanx for being here!
