In the middle of the night....
Well, the sleep deal just didn't work out worth a damn... a self-fulfilling prophecy, I guess. I laid down for about an hour and got back up. It's about 01:00 right now, and I can feel the effects already. And six more hours to go.
So, I went to the cafeteria and ate lunch... I brought a meat-loaf sandwich and a bag of Fritos. Sometimes Karen makes the best meat loaf, and this was one of those times. I will be bringing my lunch every night, from now on. Money, y'know... plus, it's really pretty easy. Karen does a better job of fixing my lunch than I do, though, but I do OK. She just puts little surprises in, and I find it hard to surprise myself.
My counterpart here at work, Leon, wants to go off of the seven-on seven-off schedule. He has been getting his ass kicked regularly, too, I guess. Anyway, I suppose that I should consider it. I would work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, ten hours each night, and he would work Saturday, Sunday and Monday, working twelve-hour shifts. That way the money would still work out about the same (we get an extra 10% for weekends) even though I would be working 80 hours per pay period and he would be working 72. Four of his 12s would be weekends, and two of my tens, but I will be getting an extra four hours in.
The more that I think about it, the more that I like it! I think that Karen will probably like it, too.
Come to think of it, those were pretty much the hours that I worked when I first started working nights in 1991. The weekends then were filled by radiotherapy students, working Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. I think that it was too rough on them, plus the fact that we lost them each year, and had to re-train someone else, which is a big pain in the ass, especially on nights, where independence is a really big factor.
O'man, it's way too late for me to still be up! Anyway, the night wasn't busy, but steady, and I stayed late to talk to the boss about revising the schedule. She said great, whatever works! so we will make the switch in two weeks.
Karen brought Kim into the ED about 07:00; she's been having lower-abdominal/pelvic pain for a day or two, and occasionally in a lot of pain. I left before the lab results got back, but Karen's supposed to call me.
However, right now I'm going to take my pills and go to sleep.
From the middle of the US of A...
