....While you were sleeping...

00:06 11/29/97

It's not been a bad night so far, but I've had a fairly steady patient load. Once again today I did the segmented sleep thing... 4 hours sleep, 3 hours up, then three hours, with the last hour of that spent, not in sleep, but banging on the snooze bar.

I'm singularly uninspired tonight. I don't know what I want to write.

Karen got home about 17:00 from Wichita, but she called from Kim's and said that she was going to the store, so I went back to sleep, and I just saw her briefly after I got up. Karla brought Drew over, and I got to play with him for a couple of minutes before I had to shower and get ready for work. I don't get to see much of Drew, and he's a cute kid and fun, I need to see him more often, some way or another. Karla has a lot of family in town, so we aren't permanent baby-sitters the way we are with Packy and Lacee.

Things did not go as planned last night. I was bored and getting sleepy, so I was hanging out in the ED, joking around with some people there. One of the people was Deb, the unit secretary. Some way or another, I said that she was empty-headed, or something like that. Well, she cursed me with multiple traumas. (OK, so that should be traumata...) So, about a fifteen minutes later, Steve and I were out in the ambulance bay, taking a break, and Deb comes out. Yep, there had been a call, there were two victims of an MVA coming in... one a code red, the other a code gray. Deb was delighted, saying that I was the one who brought it on.

Anyway, these two guys had hit a utility pole doing about 70 MPH, and if they hadn't been so drunk, it would've killed them. Howsome ever, of course, it didn't. One of them had a fractured acetabulum, but he left AMA (Against Medical Advice). He will be back when he sobers up, I betcha!

So... my ass is draggin' again. And it's raining again (it has since yesterday afternoon) and gloomy. I was told by several daytime people that it's a good day for sleeping. My usual reply is, "Well, shit, they all are!"

So, it's off to bed for me! Have a happy!

Thanx for being here!
