25 OCTOBER 1997

21:49 10/25/97 Saturday

This has been a pretty blah day, and I've been enjoying it.

I slept in until 11:00; everyone was gone when I awoke. JD and Tyler went to a food-handling meeting for Pizza Hut, and Lisa went to work. The boys got home around 13:00. I decided to cook some lunch, we had ham and eggs and toast. I'm usually a pretty good ham&egg cook, but the skillets that were available were... less than optimal, let's say. Karen and I bought a really good set of teflon cookware a year or so ago, and I'm used to that. I broke the yolks on four of the six eggs I tried to do over easy.

Tyler had to go to work at 17:00, and Lisa got home shortly after he left. JD went to work at 18:00, but before he left there was a tornado warning. There was a line of storms associated with a cold front moving through, and it extended from the coast to about 60 miles north of Huntsville. And there was a break in the line right where Huntsville is... so we escaped unscathed except for a little rain.

After JD left, Lisa left for her orchestra concert. I went out several times to watch the clouds, and I saw a number of hail clouds overhead, but none of it reached the ground. I love watching hail clouds, although I was a little bit nervous, with the caddy sitting there unprotected.

Earlier in the afternoon, we watched an excellent football game... Missouri at Oklahoma State. It was a cliffhanger... two overtimes, with Missou finally pulling out the win, 51 to 50.

I also watched the baseball game, with the Marlins losing tonight.

I have been pretty disgusted with baseball since the players' strike a couple of years ago. I was a pretty good fan before that, going to maybe six or eight Royal's games every year. Karen and I went to no Royals games this year, and only one last year. I'm not sure how much of this is carry-over from the strike feelings and how much is due to the fact that the Royals have had lousy teams the last couple of years.

I am definitely enjoying this world series, though. There have been some excellent games, with some stellar plays and some really crummy plays. One more game, then no more baseball.

Maybe the Royals can get me excited next year. Probably not, though.

More tomorrow....

Thanx for being here!
