02 February 1997

Long day Sunday, too, (like Saturday) but it's not over yet.

We were awakened this morning by Deb pounding on the door. About half-asleep, I heard Deb telling Karen that she had talked to Betty and it's all off. She thinks that they're doing just fine where they are.

So, got up and had breakfast and coffee. I got a really lousey night's sleep on the hide-a-bed, as usual. Have they ever made a comfortable hid-a-bed? One as good as my waterbed? I think not! Anyway, Ric and I played more on the computer, then the girls went on over to the folks' place. The strategy was going to be to just ignore any references to it "not happening" and it seemed to work. The girls set about packing and sorting and throwing away, and I was kind of step&fetchit, but mostly stood around and looked dumb or sat around and read. I wound up bringing a lot of stuff home... but wait, I'm getting ahead of the story.

Karen decided that she need to stay in Wichita and help Debbie with this transition; she had mentioned it to her boss Friday, and thought it was OK with work. She gave me the choice of staying (another night in that crummy bed?) or of coming back and getting her on Tuesday, the day of the big move.

So... the present plan is: I fix the brakes on the Van and hitch up the trailer and return to Wichita on Tuesday. Why do I need a trailer? {you ask} Well, the unit that Charlie and Betty are moving in to is 525 SF and the one they're moving out of is about 1000 SF. So, we inherit the furniture. We are thrilled... the garage is still full of the remnants of their move from Parsons to Wichita 15 months ago. Karen's kids will be able to use some of this stuff, though...

I loaded up the Saab (Saabs will hold a lot of junk with the rear seat folded down) and headed back home about 15:00, got here after 17:00 after an uneventful trip. Kim was over (Lisa had been babysitting) and I got some help unloading the car.

Lisa fixed me some supper, and then came into the computer room to talk to me. Seems like this boy at school really likes her (and she likes him), but she is really clutzy around him, runs into doors and such. Anyway, he called her and asked her out today, and she turned him down because... because... she didn't know. So I talked her into calling him. He wasn't home, but his room-mate said he'd be back soon, so Lisa went over to wait for him. I hope that it works out all right... I hate giving bad advice.

Kspress was down earlier, so I don't know if this'll get up tonight or not. I'm looking forward to a long shower and bed, even though it isn't even 20:00 yet. I'm worn out for some reason...

Thanx for being here!
