It's a lot like Kansas in the middle of the winter...
Job interview in the morning. I might just have a chance at this position, anyway. The lady I'm interviewing with is the one who negotiates the salaries... I'm not sure if that's a good sign or not. She's also been known as the hatchet lady for her work during layoffs...
I have also heard that the lady with a masters' did not impress anybody. So maybe my impression that the hirers are impressed by degrees is wrong. Maybe not, though. There is still one other guy from the outside that has applied for the job who has not yet been interviewed.
If I do get offered the job... it's going to be hard leaving the one I'm doing now. As I have said before, I love my job, my hours, and the people that I get to work with. I'm not sure if any of that would be true if I went to days as a supervisor again. The two things that I would like: More money, and I would get to sleep with Karen every night.
I have no doubts about being able to do the work well; nor do I have doubts about the people that I would be supervising. But there will be trade-offs. Not the least of which would working from 08:30 'til 17:00 five days a week. I do enjoy the seven-on/seven off that I have now. And it will be strange to not be up all night, although I guess I could get used to being a day-time person again.
The number one reason: making Karen happy.
My number one reason for living: Making Karen happy. Oh, yeah, and Lacee, too!
My interview is for 07:30, so I will have an update/recap at the end of this entry.
Did I mention that it's very cold outside? Where I have to go to smoke? I did? It's -30 wind chill right now. I know that doesn't impress anybody in Minnesota, where it's -80 right now, but it might impress some folks from Texas...
JD and Lisa are leaving this morning. It has been really nice having them here... their stay has been much too short. But they have to get back to school by Monday, and the weather/road conditions between here and there are not really good and will not get any better in the near future. It has been really nice getting to know Lisa R. better, I hope that we can continue...
Incidental notes: buddy Doug has almost quit smoking, down to two cigarettes a day. I have started smoking ultra-lights... maybe, if I get that job, they'll make not smoking a condition of employment... I think that they can do that?
Ah, well, the "interview" with the personnel director was a... supervisory psychological profile. Not an interview at all, but kinda fun anyway.
I got JD and Lisa up when I got home, they had a pretty early night last night, they said they went to bed about 01:00. Early for them, anyway. They've got twelve hours of hard driving (but with a good tailwind) before they're home. I just talked JD into taking the turnpike and I-35 instead of 75 going back. I-35, of course, is 4-lane all the way, and they do maintain and sand the interstate very well. Plus there's a lot of traffic, so if they should get into trouble, there would be help at hand.
This is a little joyful note that I found in my mailbox this morning:
