18:14

I had a small part in a WWW success story. The internet is a wonderful thing. I wish a swift recovery for Drew!

Getting ready to go to work... I got up way too early again today, about 14:00, and I went to bed about 09:30. What the hell is going on here? I intended to get a lot of sleep today, I have to go to personnel in the AM and officially apply for that job, I wanted to be kinda rested, at least. Didn't happen that way, though.

I did get caught up on all of the online journals...

... while you were sleeping....

No, none of that 'while you were sleeping' stuff tonight! Busy all night, and I had a student there helping me, too. It's interesting working with someone else for a change... but, anyway, at 05:00 we went up to the Critical Care units to do the AM chest xrays. Well, we tried to, anyway. Got on the elevator with the xray machine, pushed the button, and clunk!... went nowhere. Brian and I looked at each other. I'm sure that he was thinking the same thing I was: if this really had to happen, why didn't I get stuck with a beautiful woman? But there we were, stuck. The elevator has a phone in it, so I called the operator. She got the maintenance man on the phone. From then on, it was a circus. The maintenance guy, well, he's not really a genius. Neither were any of the fifty other people who came to see what was going on. Nobody could get the elevator working. We finally got the door open about a foot; then we could at least see out. There was a crowd of people laughing and jeering at us.

Luckily, I could now respond with a singular gesture.

We were about three feet off of the ground floor... the most the elevator could fall would have been about five feet. But even then, we didn't want that to happen. After about twenty minutes, they decided to call the elevator guy. The operator called us and told us it would be twenty minutes. That was really generous; it was forty minutes.

In the meantime, we had patients to do, both the ones in the units and a couple from the ED; so I had one of the security guys call the surgery call person in. I knew that we were in trouble with the schedule... and when we finally got out, it was balls to the wall for the rest of the shift.

I'm now totally exhausted and drained, I do think that I will be able to get my much-needed sleep right now! and I'm gonna do it!

Thanx for being here!
