On the way back from Texas... listening to a radio station with a female DJ... a community service announcement... "Don't forget the Alzheimers' benefit march on Sunday!" Completely serious. Karen and I about died laughing.
Another thing I noticed on the trip back from Texas... there are a helluva lot of churches between here and there. None of them paying taxes. There should be at the very least an entertainment tax on churches.
And Tax Deductions for contributions! So by rights I should get a tax writeoff on my entertainment, huh. Not very damned likely. O'well.
People can do good things for the wrong reasons, just as people can do bad things for the right reasons. A lot of the work that religious workers do is good... feed the hungry, clothe the naked, baptizing the heathens... no, forget the last one.
I've been getting increasingly vulgar lately. I'm going to clean up my language here. Have I said this before? In my real life (yes, I still have one... I think. Let me check with Karen on this one...), I only say "fuck" about once a month, whereas it appears here a lot more frequently. Am I trying to impress people with my knowledge of vulgarities? Have I actually impressed anybody? Anybody? Ah, I thought not. Someone get on me if I start up again. The only reason to ever be vulgar is to make a point, and I'll try to do it with a more effective use of the English language.
And no, I'm not trying to get a "G" rating from MicroSoft... I'm just trying to use a little self-discipline here.
Very tired tonight. Medassist wasn't very busy, but the hospital is really dead... forgive the pun. I need some action, but I'm afraid of the form it might take! I got up way too early today, and I'm still really tired from the drive on Tuesday. So I'll get this all written tonight, post it when I get home, and then crash.
I had 83 pieces of mail when I got on the system yesterday. Most of them don't need answering, but there are quite a few that do. I also need to write and thank the people that signed my guest book.
So, anyway, if I owe you some mail, please be patient. I keep my unanswered mail in my inbox, don't file it until it's answered... that box is getting really unwieldy. What does that mean, anyway? The opposite of wieldy? Wow, I sure would like to have a wieldy inbox!
Doug and I are going by ourselves to Fork this spring. It's just getting to be too hard trying to get commitments from everyone that says they want to go. Getting them to put up or shut up... Doug just kinda got sick of it. If anyone else goes, they can make their own arrangements. And I haven't been fishing for a couple of weeks now... it was really strange going to Texas and leaving my tackle box and rods behind, but I know that Karen doesn't enjoy fishing at all, and she had fun, so it was worth it. I guess...
Beautiful cool rainy weather here. I love the rain because, as I have mentioned before, I hate boring weather. And rain very seldom gets boring here in Kansas. Either it doesn't or it floods.
I did finally get a little bit busy at work last night, but not too much. Took the edge off of the boredom for a while. I hate the first night back. It's always too long, and I've never gotten enough sleep.
Something that I forgot to mention earlier (I think)... when we were at JD's, he mentioned that he knew the guy here in Topeka that murdered his wife and stepdaughter last week, He had met him because he was a neighbor of his friend Mike, and he'd worked on Mike's car for him. He did not do a satisfactory job on Mike's car, but he was an intimidating guy, so Mike didn't say anything. The guy had been sent to prison for murder or manslaughter before, although the newspaper mentioned only that he'd served time for burglary. Our paper doesn't always get things right, though. Imagine that!
Thass all, Folks!
