AAAAhhhh CRAP!
I'm doing a really lousey job of getting my sleeping patterns turned around this time. I got to sleep about 23:45 and woke up at 01:00, probably due to a cat jumping on my stomach as he was going to snuggle up to Karen. She insists on leaving the bedroom door open, even though she's asleep the minute her head hits the pillow. Mostly I get up and close it in five minutes or so, but sometimes I don't, and I always regret it. I'm a fairly light sleeper anyway, and once I get woke up I'm awake. And that's that.
So, anyway, I been playing on the net, of course. What else is there to do at 01:00 for an insomniac? I did put up another atheist link and discovered another journal on Open Pages. Also, another journaler was lamenting the fact that the net is so non-interactive... people come to the site, look around and leave no trace of their being there other than another click on the counter. So I left him some email.
I have recently discovered (well, someone kindly pointed it out to me) that I'm the oldest journaler on the net (that I know of)(at least since Tim Leary died). That's kind of a neat distinction in a sneaky way. So far, the only thing I've found that being old proves is that you've survived being young... actually, that's not that easy of an accomplishment, is it?
Intellectually, being old means that you've had more time to think, and more experiences to think about. However, many people never learned to think when they were young, and therefore didn't really learn anything from their experiences, they just survived them. Is there really wisdom in the accumulation of experiences, or in thinking about them? Or is wisdom innate, like blue eyes or brown hair or artistic ability? And is wisdom really good for anything, anyway? People don't revere wisdom anymore (there aren't any monuments to me anywhere!) and I don't know any wise rich people or wise politicians. Most of the people who I consider wise live rather humdrum lives, and enjoy it that way.
Going to try to go back to sleep, then get up and do chores and then go fishin' with Doug. More later...
A beautiful day for fishin'... unfortunately, still a crummy one for sleepin'. I got maybe an hours' worth today. Doug got here about 15:00 & we were off to Betsy's; I was loaded and ready to go when he came. Once we got to the pond, we couldn't see the boat. I've left my two-man bass boat at Betsy's all summer, never had a problem before. We found the boat floating upside down by the dam with the seats still in it. Andy has an old aluminum boat he leaves out there, so we towed mine back to the ramp and were amazed and happy that the seats were still in it and there was no obvious damage to the boat.
Someone had maliciously overturned the boat... you can't capsize those boats accidentally. So I'm going back out tomorrow with a chain and a lock. It'll be a lot harder for them next time!
Anyway, Doug and I had a really good day... we were fishing, not working! It was not a really good day for catching fish... we had ten apiece... but it was a beautiful place to be on a beautiful day with a good friend.
Lacee and Karen were here when I got home. Kim and Steve bowl on Fridays, so Lacee usually comes over if we aren't doing anything. She is just so damned Cute! But Kim wasn't bowling anyway, she'd had a reaction to some headache medicine the Dr had given her. She took it at work and got sick enough that Karen had to take her home. She's better now, and she probably won't use that medication again!
I got a really neat email from a Lady reader in Australia today. She told me that her email message alarm went off as she was doing something else and she said "Hello, Doug!" and sure enough it was from me (she's on my notification list). I guess I'm kinda consistent, anyway, when someone on the other side of the world knows when to expect email from me!
Thanx for being here!
