Wow! Just got home, I had written earlier between patients, then the shit hit the fan and there was no more between patients! We got a MVA with seven patients, all of them needing xrays of one kind or another. That's the longest I've been without a cigarette while I was awake for a long time! Anyway, here's the earlier stuff... sometime while you were sleeping...
A Mind is a Terrible Thing...
In yesterday's entry, I told you all that JD and I had gotten into a chigger-infested field; and that I had gotten a script from the doc here. When I was writing that, I could actually feel the little bastards burrowing under my skin on my legs and feet. When I woke JD up this morning to go eat breakfast, I asked him if he had any bites. He said that no, he didn't. I checked the areas on my legs where I was sure I'd find the beginnings of welts, and there were none there. And there still aren't. I had just convinced myself that I was infested... and I did a really good job, until I checked for the evidence. A lot like religion...
Granddaughter Lacee has a problem with bugs. Karen was telling me that she had a mosquito biting her leg when she was on the swing set, and she wouldn't brush it off, but would just sit there and scream, utterly terrified. The same thing happened a week or so ago, only it was an ant.
Speaking of mosquitos, do you know the difference between a blonde and a mosquito? When you slap a mosquito, it stops sucking... Or the difference between a blonde and a refrigerator? When you take the meat out of the refrigerator, it doesn't moan...
I've got a major problem with MSIE... it interprets bad HTML code for me. It corrects it internally, so when I screw up, and I have been known to do so, it looks all right to me with MSIE. However, people using other brands of browsers that don't do that... it's screwed up to them. The most common mistake I make is putting the "/" after the closing tag instead of before it. MSIE says, "OK, this is what he really meant" and does OK. Other browsers (yes, you know who you are!) say "Hey! This guy screwed up! Let's let the world know what a dummy he is!" and don't let me get by with anything. Any good suggestions out there? (And Please don't say "Buy Netscape!") As it stands right now, I've got a friend who lets me know when I screw up, which is very nice of him (Thanx!) but I'd rather not screw up...
JD got off about 13:30 today, he should be getting into Hunstville within the next hour or so... it's 23:15 now. Raining in KC during the game in Arrowhead with the Saints tonight, where the Chiefs really kicked some ass. Kim and Steve went to the game, they probably got soaked. Packy and Lacee are staying with Karen tonight. Y'know, it's strange. Kim won these tickets for the game tonight, but she never says, "hey, mom and Doug, I won some tickets but I would rather stay home with the kids...", No, but it's always, "I need you to keep the kids so Steve and I can go..." Of course, I had to work tonight anyway.
Those of you in a non-cloudy part of the country can watch the meteor spectacular of the summer... the persied shower is tonight and tomorrow night. Look to the northeast quadrant for the show. I tried to get off Sunday night but they couldn't find anyone to work for me... and it'll probably rain anyway. I haven't got to see the persieds for years... eight or ten anyway. It's fun to just sit out in a lawn chair somewhere in the country, away from the city lights, and lean back and talk and watch.
Bob Dole and Jack Kemp, what a combo. I think that he made a choice that will definitely strengthen his vote-gathering ability. A lot of people like Kemp, and I'm even one of his fans, even if he is a republican. The VP in Dole's race is important, given Dole's age. We might be voting for the next president when we vote for the VP on the republican ticket. That doesn't sound quite right, but you know what I mean... don't you?
A couple of days ago, I promised a review on the Outback Steak House, so here it is: OK. Service was excellent, food was OK, prices were probably about average. It ain't no North Star, though. North Star=9, Outback=7. The only way to get a 10 is if the meal is free (Thanx, Mom!).
Ah, saturday night in the emergency department, the smell of alcoholic vomit hanging in the air.
